Blogging and social media have become an integral part of educating, entertaining, and informing followers in this internet era.

WordPress is the most used content management system. Facebook, on the other hand, is the most popular social media platform, with 2.989 billion monthly users, according to Statista.

What if you can get the best out of the two worlds? In this article, I will explain how to embed a Facebook feed in WordPress. I will also highlight the importance of embedding Facebook posts on WordPress, the different approaches (their pros and cons), and the final thoughts.

Why integrate a Facebook feed into a WordPress website?

<img alt="Why-integrate-a-Facebook-feed-into-a-WordPress-website" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Why-integrate-a-Facebook-feed-into-a-WordPress-website.jpg" data- decoding="async" height="563" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”1000″>

As I have already stated, Facebook and WordPress are independent platforms created for different needs. Embedding your Facebook feed into WordPress is the process of integrating Facebook content from your profile/ page directly to your WordPress site.

You can embed a Facebook feed on WordPress to achieve the following:

  • Increased engagement and social media presence: You need a mix of social and organic traffic to survive the online world. Embedding your Facebook content on WordPress attracts increased engagement from both worlds.
  • Content syndication: Social media is perfect when you want to share quick updates that don’t need a full blog. You can keep your website followers informed through social media posts that appear directly on the website.
  • Enhances user experience and encourages social interaction: A good social media page should encourage interactions. You can let your followers comment, share, and like your posts directly from your WordPress site.
  • Showcasing social proof: Modern web users want assurance they are dealing with real brands. Integrating your Facebook feed is enough to cement your position as a real brand with a real following.
  • Dynamic content: Search engines tend to rank websites with fresh and dynamic content higher than those that seem abandoned. You can ensure that you keep your web content fresh through embeds from Facebook.
  • Cross-promotion: Some of your followers could be social media fans, while the rest love websites or blogs. You can cross-post your content and reach as many followers as possible.

Types of Facebook feeds to embed on your WordPress site

Facebook has evolved over time and now allows users to share varying types of content. These are the examples of content types you can share today:

  • Facebook posts: A normal Facebook post can have text, video, image, or a combination of a few content types. You can embed all such content on your WordPress site.
  • Facebook albums: You can use albums to group related images/videos. You can share such content with your website followers for increased engagement
  • Page reviews: Facebook allows users to review various products and services offered by various pages. You can let your website followers know what people think about your brand through embeds.
  • Videos: Modern consumers are being drawn towards video content like never before. You can allow such users to interact with your Facebook videos without leaving your WordPress site.

WordPress is designed for both techies and non-techies. If you understand coding, you can add custom HTML code to your WordPress site to embed Facebook posts. However, if you aren’t conversant with coding, you can use plugins. Let’s look at the different methods of embedding Facebook feeds on your site.

Using Facebook Feed Plugins

A WordPress plugin is a piece of software designed to extend the functionality of a WordPress site. In this case, we will use WordPress plugins to embed Facebook posts in a WordPress site. There exist dozens of plugins that you can use for this. However, we will use the Smash Balloon Social Post, a freemium plugin for cross-posting content.

You need a Facebook account and a WordPress site to follow along. Follow these steps:

  • Login into your WordPress account: Use your username and password to log into your WordPress site.
  • Install Smash Balloon Social Post Feed plugin: On the left-hand side of your website, locate “Plugins” and click on “Add New”.
<img alt="wp" data- data-src="https://geekflare.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/wp.webp" data- decoding="async" height="140" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”197″>

Click on the search button and type “Smash Balloon Social Post Feed.”

Select the first option, install, activate, and proceed to the next step.

  • Launch the setup wizard: You need to configure this plugin to start fetching feeds from your Facebook account/page.
<img alt="Wizard" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-08-57-01.png" data- decoding="async" height="582" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”864″>
  • Connect your Facebook Account: You must connect this plugin with your Facebook page/ account if you are using it for the first time. Click on the ‘Add New’ button.
<img alt="Connect" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-01-35.png" data- decoding="async" height="475" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”874″>
  • Link the two accounts: This step allows the plugin’s API to retrieve public content from your Facebook feed. For this demonstration, select “Page” and click on the “Connect to Facebook” button.
<img alt="Connect to Facebook" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-10-50-1.png" data- decoding="async" height="455" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”911″>
  • Login into your Facebook account: If you are logged into your Facebook account on the same browser, you may be prompted to select an account. In my case, I am already logged in.
<img alt="Connected account" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-13-23.png" data- decoding="async" height="320" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”587″>
  • Select a page: This WordPress plugin will be fetching content feeds from your Facebook page. Select one of the pages that you intend to use.
<img alt="Facebook page" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-15-34.png" data- decoding="async" height="340" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”724″>

Confirm that you have selected the right page and move to the next step.

<img alt="Confirm page" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-17-29.png" data- decoding="async" height="449" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”887″>
  • Allow configuration settings: This setting will allow the plugin to create and display Facebook feeds from connected accounts.
<img alt="Configuration" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-25-13.png" data- decoding="async" height="449" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”887″>

Select all the configurations that apply. You can, for now, skip the other steps, like installing related plugins or upgrading to Pro.

  • Create your feed: This step allows you to fetch the feed from your Facebook page.
<img alt="Create your feed" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-32-17.png" data- decoding="async" height="586" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”850″>
  • Select your feed: Since we are using the free version of the Smash Balloon Social Post plugin, we can only select “Timeline” as our Facebook feed type.
<img alt="Feed" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-36-36.png" data- decoding="async" height="549" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”851″>
  • Select a source: This step is for confirmation purposes only. You can also add new pages/groups at this stage.
<img alt="Confirm feed" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-38-20.png" data- decoding="async" height="307" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”853″>
  • Customize your feed: You can now customize how and where your Facebook feed will appear on your WordPress site.
<img alt="Published feed" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-09-48-52.png" data- decoding="async" height="444" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”863″>

As you can see from the above screenshot, my WordPress site is now fetching content from my Facebook page.

Pros of using WordPress plugins to embed Facebook feed

  • Easy to configure: You don’t have to write any code from scratch, as the plugin developers have done most of the work for you.
  • Comes with varying configurations to suit varying needs: Most developers understand that plugin users have varying needs.  For instance, the plugin we have used allows you to fetch content from a page or a group.
  • Most plugins are well-documented: A plugin should be well-documented before it is uploaded to the WordPress directory.

Cons of using WordPress plugins to embed Facebook feed

  • Most plugins have limited features on their free plans

Using HTML

HTML is used in most of the web pages that you interact with. You can use the Meta for Developers social plugin to embed posts with text, images, or videos to your WordPress site. You can use this feature with any page that is not restricted by country or age. Follow these steps to add Facebook HTML code to your WordPress site:

  • Login into your WordPress site: I will be using my website for demonstration. Use your username and password combination.
  • Login into your Facebook page/account: This is quite straightforward. You can locate the post you want to embed on your WordPress site. This is the post I will use for demonstration purposes.
<img alt="Facebook post" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-14-06-21.png" data- decoding="async" height="279" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”570″>
<img alt="Generate code" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-14-10-05.png" data- decoding="async" height="535" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”835″>
  • Insert the code on your WordPress site: You can insert the generated code inside a post or a page. For my case, I have created a new post for demonstration purposes. To embed the post, you can select JavaScript SDK or IFrame. We will pick IFrame for now.
<img alt="IFrame" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-14-18-08.png" data- decoding="async" height="289" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”728″>
  • Add the code as HTML: WordPress comes with a block editor by default. However, I am a fan of Classic Editor. To add the HTML code, I will use the “Text” option on Classic editor to add the IFrame code.
<img alt="Classic Editor" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-14-21-53.png" data- decoding="async" height="350" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”579″>

You can publish or update your post. This will be my embedded post when I finally publish my post.

<img alt="Published post" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Screenshot-from-2023-10-27-14-24-54.png" data- decoding="async" height="398" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”564″>

Pros

  • Reduces dependency on plugins: Some plugins may dictate the nature of posts that you can embed on your website. For instance, some plugins will only allow you to embed text in their free plans. Manual embeds allow you to overcome such limitations.
  • Gives direct control: Manual embeds allow you to decide where your Facebook posts should appear on your website.
  • Direct code editing: This feature will suit you well if you love playing around with code. You can make real-time adjustments without going through the pain of figuring out how a plugin works.

Cons

  • Requires manual intervention: Unfortunately, you will have to insert every Facebook post into your WordPress site manually. This approach can be very involving, especially if you make several posts in a day.
  • It is technical: If you are a regular WordPress user with no coding experience, this approach might not be the best.

Conclusion

Combining social media and website posting can cement your space in the online space. We have taught you how you can embed your social media posts on WordPress and keep your followers always updated.

Even though both approaches are okay, the use of HTML code needs a lot of manual intervention as you need to insert code for every post manually. However, when you use plugins, you can configure your Facebook posts to appear automatically on the WordPress site.
