Axe is one of the most commonly used tools in Minecraft that you require for the chopping of trees, but you can also break other blocks with it as well such as doors, chests, and tables. How to Make a Wooden Axe
You can make a wooden axe by placing 3 wooden planks and 2 sticks on the crafting in the exact same order as shown in the image below.

The first thing that you need to do is to chop any tree that you can find that will give you a wooden log. After that, you need to place that wooden log in any of the 9 slots on the crafting table that will give you 4 wooden planks.

After making wooden planks, the next item that you need is the sticks and for that, you need to place 2 of these planks on the crafting table that will give you 4 sticks.

How to Make a Stone Axe
You can make a stone axe by placing 3 cobblestones and 2 sticks on the crafting in the exact same way as shown in the image below.

You can get the cobblestones by mining the stone blocks that are available in every other biome; around the caves, tunnels and mountains.

To mine them you need any of the available pickaxes in the game as you can’t do that by using your hands only. The wooden axe and pickaxe both require the same items for their crafting but their placement on the crafting table is different. After mining the cobblestones, place 3 of them along with the 2 sticks in the exact same order on the crafting table to make a stone axe.

Durability
Durability describes how long an item can survive and how sturdy it is so the durability for both pickaxes described above is different. The durability of the wooden axe is 59 whereas the durability of the Stone axe is 131 which means that you can break a block 59 times using a wooden axe and 131 times using a stone axe.
Damage Per Second (DPS)
Although these tools are not built to use against the mobs, they are still a much better option than fighting with hands only. The wooden axe has a DPS value of 7 while the stone axe has a DPS of 9. Whereas the attack speed for both axes is the same which is 0.8. As the damage of the stone axe is greater than the wooden axe means that it can chop faster. For example, the chopping of a wooden log with a wooden axe will take 1.5 seconds whereas a stone axe can chop it in 0.75 seconds.
