If you have children or animals, then you have probably experienced that shock, horror, and gasp moment when your laptop screen has suddenly flipped. While the physical screen of your laptop will almost always be horizontal, it is possible to flip the graphics within this screen, and it can come as a big shock when this happens.

Suddenly your laptop is impossible to use without leaning your head to the left or right, and this really isn’t ideal when you have work to be doing and things to be getting on with.

If your laptop screen has flipped, then you might be wondering how to rotate it back to normal. Alternatively, you might just be wondering how to rotate your laptop screen for one reason or another.

In this guide, we’ll be taking a look at how to rotate the screen on a Dell laptop. So to find out how to do this, keep on reading.

Is It Possible To Rotate The Screen On A Dell Laptop?

Well, first things first, let’s take a look at whether, or not, it is even possible to rotate the screen on a Dell laptop. In short, yes, it is possible to rotate the screen on your Dell laptop.

In fact, screen rotation is actually a function that is enabled on most laptops. The only thing that really differs from laptop to laptop is the way in which you rotate the screen.

Screen rotation is a function that most laptops, and computers, have, but it is one of those functions that you will not use all that often. Especially when it comes to laptops.

With a computer and monitor, you might find yourself rotating the display, and this would make sense as most monitors can be converted from horizontal to vertical.

But, with almost all laptops, this is not possible. The screen of your laptop is secured to the keyboard, so unless you are going to tilt your entire laptop onto its side, it is unlikely that you will ever want to rotate its screen.

But whether, or not, you want to rotate the screen of your laptop does not matter. This is a function that all Dell laptops offer.

Why Would I Rotate The Screen On A Dell Laptop?

The reason that you are able to rotate the screen on a Dell laptop is because Dell laptops run on a Windows operating system. Windows is one of the most common operating systems, and this is why so many laptops have the ability for their display to be flipped. But why does this function exist?

In truth, nobody really knows exactly why it is possible to rotate the screen on your laptop. As we said earlier, this function sort of makes sense on a desktop, but on a laptop it doesn’t.

So, the only real reason why a laptop display is able to be flipped is because this function is enabled in the Windows operating system that the laptop runs upon.

Most of the time, the only real reason why you would rotate the screen on your Dell laptop is to return it back to its original display. As we said earlier, if you have children or animals, it is not uncommon for you to suddenly find your laptop display upside down.

Likewise, if you have colleagues who think they are funny, you might find your laptop screen flipped as a joke. Ultimately, the reason your laptop screen has been flipped doesn’t really matter, all that matters is that you can return it to normal. So, let’s take a look at how to rotate the screen on a Dell laptop.

How To Rotate Screen On Dell Laptop

While it can be a real shock to find the display screen on your laptop suddenly upside down, or flipped on its side, flipping it back really isn’t that difficult.

After all, if this was a difficult task, it wouldn’t be so easy to accidentally flip the screen. So, let’s take a look at how to rotate your laptop screen back to normal.

You have two options when it comes to rotating your laptop screen. You can either do this through a keyboard shortcut, or you can do it by going through the display settings menu.

We would recommend trying the keyboard shortcut first, as most laptops will already have this function enabled.

Keyboard Shortcut

Using your keyboard to rotate your laptop screen is easy, all you have to do is hold Ctrl, alt, and up arrow simultaneously. This will flip your laptop display from whatever position it is, back to the traditional landscape orientation.

If you want to rotate your display in any other direction, simply hold down Ctrl, alt, and up/left/right arrow. This will change the orientation of your laptop from its traditional landscape view.

Display Settings Menu

If the keyboard shortcut does not work, you will need to flip your laptop screen through the display settings menu. To do this, the first thing you will need to do is open display settings.

You will then have to select a screen to fix, as long as you do not have another screen connected to your laptop, simply select the only screen on the menu.

Within this, you will be able to select the ‘display orientation’ menu, and here you should select ‘landscape’ from the list. Select ‘ok’ or ‘apply’ and then your laptop display will flip back to horizontal.

If you want to flip the orientation to a different direction, simply select this from the menu. If you want to keep your laptop orientation horizontal, simply click ‘keep changes’ when prompted. This way, your laptop will remain horizontal unless you change it.

Summary

In short, rotating your Dell laptop screen is actually pretty easy, and this is because the majority of Dell laptops operate on Windows.

The easiest way to rotate your laptop screen is through a keyboard shortcut, but you can also flip the display through the display settings menu too. We have taken a look at both methods in the guide above.
