When you get a new laptop, it can often take you a little while to adjust to it. Suddenly, the keys are all in different places, and you are unable to type as quickly as you once could.

If you have bought a new Chromebook, then this adjustment period is even more difficult because some of the keys that you would usually find on a laptop’s keyboard simply do not exist.

One of the most notable keys being the ‘delete’ key.

On most laptops, deleting images is as simple as selecting an image and pressing the ‘delete’ key. But, it isn’t this simple with a Chromebook. So, if you want to clear some space on your Chromebook, or destroy some unwanted images, you might be wondering how to delete images on your Chromebook.

In your guide, we’ll be telling you exactly how to do this. So keep on reading to find out more.

Can You Delete Images On Chromebook?

First things first, let’s establish whether, or not, you can actually delete images on your Chromebook.

You will be pleased to know that, yes, you can delete images on your Chromebook. It might seem difficult due to the noticeable lack of a ‘delete’ key, but it is actually a pretty easy task to complete. Once you know how, of course.

Chromebooks operate on a different operating system to most regular laptops. This is because Chromebooks do not operate on Windows or macOS, instead they operate on their own operating system, this is known as Chrome OS.

It is an operating system that is exclusively designed for Chromebooks, so unless you have owned a Chromebook before, it is unlikely that you will have encountered this operating system.

Chrome OS is a completely different system to anything that you will have experienced before, but when you get used to it, you will understand that it is actually pretty easy to use.

But to understand how to delete images off of your Chromebook, you first need to understand how to ‘delete’ things. So, let’s take a look at where the ‘delete’ button is on a Chromebook.

Where Is The Delete Button On The Chromebook?

Locating the delete button on your Chromebook isn’t as simple as searching for the word ‘delete’. This is because, as we have established, the ‘delete’ button does not exist.

Instead, you will have to use keyboard shortcuts to delete whatever it is you want to delete. Of course, you could always simply use the backspace key, but this will not always have the desired effect.

While there is not a specific ‘delete’ key on a Chromebook, there are actually quite a few different keyboard shortcuts that you can use to complete this action.

The most common shortcut which people use to ‘delete’ on a Chromebook is ALT and Backspace.

By pressing the ‘ALT’ key, you will enhance the function of the backspace button, ensuring that what you are looking to delete is actually deleted, not just erased.

But, this isn’t the only shortcut which can be used to delete things on a Chromebook. There are lots of great shortcuts that you can use with this operating system to make your life easier.

For example Ctrl and Backspace will delete the word which you have just typed, and Shift, Alt, and Backspace will clear all autofill data on a browser page.

But, the most common shortcut which you can use to delete things on your Chromebook is ALT and Backspace. So now that you know how to delete things on your Chromebook, let’s take a look at how to delete images.

How To Delete Individual Images On Chromebook

You might have expected to need a delete button in order to delete images on your Chromebook, but you don’t, actually. In fact, deleting images on your Chromebook is as simple as hovering over the image that you wanted to remove, and pressing the right-click button.

This will pop up a menu, and from there you can select the delete option. Once you press this, the image will be deleted.

But, you do not have to use this method if you do not want to. If you are somebody who prefers to use their keyboard, then you will be happy to hear that you can use the keyboard shortcuts that we spoke about earlier.

If you want to use this method then simply select the image that you want to delete, with a single click, and then use Ctrl and Backspace. This will delete the image that you selected, just like the right click method which we mentioned earlier.

How To Delete All Images On Chromebook

But, you might not always want to delete a single image. If you have backed up your Chromebook, and are simply looking to wipe all the content on your Chromebook, then you will likely want to delete all the images upon it.

You could always go through the images individually and delete them one by one, but this would be very tedious and time-consuming. So, you will probably be looking for a way to delete all the images at once.

To delete all the images on your Chromebook, you will first have to select all the images. You can easily do this by holding down the Ctrl key, and clicking every single file that you want to delete.

Once you have selected all the images that you want to remove, you can then simply select the trash can button, which is found on the lower-right of the file window.

Alternatively, once you have selected all the images you can press Ctrl and Backspace simultaneously and this will delete all the files you selected, moving them to the recycle bin.

Summary

In short, deleting images on your Chromebook is actually pretty easy. Your Chromebook might not have a ‘delete’ key, but it does have a Ctrl key and a Backspace key, and when pressed simultaneously they have the same effect.

So to delete images on your Chromebook, simply select the images that you want to delete, then press these keys at the same time and the images will be deleted.
