How to Find Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 (2 Methods)

Put simply, finding diamonds in Minecraft isn’t easy. But stay tuned for some important tips, and let me show you how I got a few.

Not just in real life, diamonds are rare in Minecraft too. At the same time, you need them to craft things like diamond armor, diamond weapons, enchanting table, etc.

Bottom line, diamonds are important.

So let’s limit this introduction and jump directly to two ways to get them.

Diamonds in Deep Caves

Straightway, deep caves are something every Minecraft mother would prohibit her child to wander into. 😄 They are dangerous and filled with mobs waiting to attack once you step in.

However, this is the fastest way to find some diamonds in Minecraft if you’re already in one or in the vicinity of a deep underground opening.

But there are a few things you should note before going in.

First, suit up. Any armor will work, but the stronger, the better for your survival. I would advise iron or higher. You can check the Minecraft Wiki for the armor recipes.

And although I called it the quickest ladder to success, it heavily depends on luck. And since big caves are way darker and you can’t see every corner (especially if there isn’t lava), torches will come in handy.

Next, you need something to eat to replenish health after a mob attack. Because you can’t lit everything to avoid them, and in my experience, torch lights weren’t great shields.

And finally, iron pickaxe (or better) to mine diamond ore blocks, otherwise you mine them dropping nothing.

To summarize, you’ll need:

• Armor
• Torches (grab as many)
• Enough food

Lastly, there is no magic formula to spot diamond ore blocks in big caves. It may take hours of searching before you find one or more.

Importantly, it occurs at greater depths. For instance, I found the one in the preceding image at Y=-22.

Pro tip: It would be extremely easy if you have the night vision potion. That way, you can see the entire cave without any torches and target specific blocks.

Still, I would suggest going through the second method since I mostly found one or two diamond ore blocks in my four successful cave outings.

To find more of them in one go, you need to get your hands dirty.

Tunneling to Find Diamonds

This is where you dig vertically to the depths of Y=-59, irrespective of biome, and start marching horizontally in any direction until you find diamonds.

Gamers usually couple this with strip or branch mining. It’s the process where you also mine a few blocks sideways at 2-3 block intervals while digging a straight tunnel.

I tried strip mining at first. However, I went straight ahead after a few blocks and found what I was looking for; check this video:

Well, keep trying, and remember they spawn deep below the surface, mostly up to Y=-60. Going further down will eventually hit bedrock, after which there is a negligible chance of finding them.

Lastly, this was about getting diamond ores which you can smelt with any fuel to get diamonds. Besides, you can convert nine diamonds to create one diamond block, which can be disassembled back.
