There was a time when connecting to our loved ones was not so easy. We would write them letters, and it took days, or in some cases, months to reach them. But the rapid development of technology has brought the world to our fingertips.

Using our smartphones, we can quickly connect to the people we adore and have a conversation, especially after the invention of social media.

Speaking of social media, one of the leading platforms today is Snapchat. The app allows users to send texts, photos, videos, etc., to other users. But that is not all. Snapchat empowers its users to create groups and have Group Chats with numerous people simultaneously.

If you are a Snapchat user yet do not know how to make a group, you are in the right place. Because, below, I will mention the steps to start a Group Chat on Snapchat.

What is Snapchat?

Snapchat is an instant messaging app that allows its users to connect with their near ones. However, that is only the beginning.

It is pretty feature-heavy and offers numerous facilities for its users. These include Snapstreaks, Snap Map, Story, Snapcode, Snapstore, Discover, Geo-filters, etc.

<img alt="YouTube video" data-pin-nopin="true" data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/maxresdefault.jpg65292141cae6d.jpg" height="720" nopin="nopin" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”1280″>

It also comes equipped with a plethora of face and world lenses, enhancing your Snapchat experience.

Interestingly, the older versions of Snapchat came with its own payment app, namely Snapcash. By linking their bank account or credit card, users could transfer or receive money within the Snapchat app. It still bugs me that they removed this feature.

However, the feature we will focus on in this article is its Group Chats.

Why Group Chat?

In today’s digital world, group chats carry remarkable significance. Just think of the popularity of Whatsapp chats.

Group chats exude a sense of belonging and being connected among the participants. Even when they are physically away from each other, group chats allow them to connect virtually.

<img alt="Snapchat filters" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/april-walker-jgS5TjOivCg-unsplash-945×630.jpg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”945″>

Also, they enable instant responses in situations that involve multiple people. Texting all these people one by one is time-consuming and where every second matters, this is inconceivable. Group chats give all individuals an opportunity to receive the message at once and respond fast.

Plus, group chats let users share files and various types of documents, including images, videos, audio, etc. Once shared, group members can easily search for the files and access them, no matter how old they are.

Steps to make a Group Chat on Snapchat

Now, I will list out all the steps you need to follow to make a Snapchat Group and have a conversation with up to 200 people at once:

  • Launch the Snapchat app on your smartphone.
<img alt="Snapchat" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Snapchat-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>
  • At the bottom of your screen, you will see the ‘Chat’ button with a text bubble icon. Click on it.
<img alt="Snapchat Chat Section" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Snapchat-New-Chat-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>
  • After that, click on the ‘New Chat’ button at the bottom-right of your screen.
<img alt="Snapchat-New-Group" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Snapchat-New-Group-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>
  • Next, click on ‘New Group,’ and choose the participants of the group. At this stage, you can also name your group by tapping the ‘New Group’ option.
<img alt="Snapchat-new-group-participants" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Snapchat-new-group-participants-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>
  • Once done, click on the ‘Chat with Group’ button.

That’s it! You have now successfully made a Snapchat group where you can have fun group conversations.

Here’s a little secret🤫: if you send a Bitmoji, only the participant who last sent a message, Snap, or something else in the group will have a Friendmoji.

Also, note that all the Snaps or texts you send to a Group Chat get auto-deleted after 24 hours (effective, but not as friendly as Instagram’s Vanish Mode). While this feature increases privacy, I recommend you be careful about what you send, as Snapchat does not prevent taking screenshots.

How to customize or manage Group Chat?

Snapchat makes it easier for you to not only create Group Chats but also customize or manage them. Allow me to explain these effective Group Chat management options:

  • Tap “Message Notifications.’
  • On the subsequent pop-up, you get three options: ‘All Messages’ (for all messages), ‘Mentions Only’ (for tagged messages), and ‘Silent’ (for all notifications). Tap on the most suitable option.

#4. Leave the Group Chat

In case you no longer wish to be a part of a particular group, you are free to leave it. Leaving a group requires you to perform the following steps:

  • Open your group settings.
  • Tap on the three vertical dots on the top-right corner of your screen.
  • Tap ‘Leave Group.’

#5. Rename the group

Renaming a Snapchat group is an effortless affair. Here is how you can change the name of a group:

  • Tap on the intended group.
  • Then, tap on the name of the group and rename it to whatever you want.
<img alt="Rename Group Name" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Rename-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>
  • Tap ‘Done’ after writing a new name.

#6. Save group texts

If you want to save certain messages in your Snapchat group, just do the following:

  • Open the Group Chat and find the message to save.
<img alt="Chats in a Snapchat Group" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Save-Message-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>
  • Simply hold on to that message and tap ‘Save.’
<img alt="Save-in-Chat-option" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/echo/Save-in-Chat-option-284×630.jpeg" data- decoding="async" height="630" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”284″>

Snapchat’s text-saving feature works a little differently when compared to other messaging apps. Unlike them, Snapchat marks your save and lets all the group participants know that you have saved that message. Keep this in mind to avoid getting into any embarrassing situations.

Benefits of Group Chats on Snapchat

There are multiple perks of Snapchat Group Chats:

  • Snapchat Group Chats help users stay in touch with several friends at the same time. Instead of sending messages to them individually, just a single message in the group will suffice. This saves time and improves the convenience of the user.
  • For businesses, Group Chats on Snapchat bring about better engagement with their audience. They can use the groups as an effective medium to share the latest updates, offers, promotional content, etc. Besides making reaching out to potential customers easier, it can help boost brand awareness. All this is bound to contribute to more sales and revenue.
  • Organizations can also utilize Snapchat Group Chats to facilitate better communication and cooperation between team members. Group Chats can serve as a platform where all the members can have discussions in real-time and arrive at a decision much quicker.
