Whether you love reading fun stories, solving puzzles and quizzes, or simply want some jokes to tickle your funny bone, ChatGPT got it all.

ChatGPT can help you with academics, office work, and learning new skills. However, it isn’t just limited to all the boring stuff. It can actually keep you entertained for hours in many ways.

ChatGPT can generate original content using the hundreds of GBs of data it trained on, it’s much better than simply doing a search on Google.

<img alt="ChatGPT-Can-Keep-You-Entertained" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/ChatGPT-Can-Keep-You-Entertained.jpg" data- decoding="async" height="493" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”740″>

Google might be able to provide a website to tell you jokes about politics, but ChatGPT can create dozens of jokes on the spot about something as simple as a power outlet.

If you are ready to kill some time with custom-generated fun content, keep reading as I list some interesting ways ChatGPT can entertain you.

Generate Jokes and Comedy Acts

ChatGPT can generate jokes about almost everything you can think about as long as it doesn’t break ChatGPT rules. I literally asked it to make jokes about things I could find in my room, and it generated 5-10 jokes for everything. Of course, whether the jokes are funny or not is subjective, but 20-30% of jokes should give you a chuckle.

Simply asking it to “tell a joke” gets repetitive quite quickly, so I’ll recommend you give it a topic to make jokes on.

For example, you can ask it to make jokes about politics, marriage, men, and even objects like shampoo or a water bottle. For popular subjects, it might steal already-known jokes (sometimes edited), but most of the time the jokes are unique.

<img alt="chatgpt-joke" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/chatgpt-joke.jpg" data- decoding="async" height="412" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Similarly, you can also ask ChatGPT to act as a standup comedian and generate a whole routine on any topic. I personally find such routines much more fun than one-liner jokes as the jokes have the same pattern.

<img alt="comedy-routine" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/comedy-routine.jpg" data- decoding="async" height="452" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

You can use the below community-made prompt to properly generate a routine.

I want you to act as a stand-up comedian. I will provide you with some topics related to current events and you will use your wit, creativity, and observational skills to create a routine based on those topics. You should also be sure to incorporate personal anecdotes or experiences into the routine in order to make it more relatable and engaging for the audience. My first request is 'I want an humorous take on politics.'

Tips for a better experience

  • Use the word “jokes” instead of “joke” to always get 5-10 jokes on a topic. You can also specify the exact number of jokes you need.
  • Make the quality of jokes better by adding words like creative, witty, unexpected, and other words that could change the focus/tone of the jokes.
  • Instead of just objects or topics, you can also tell a full scenario to get even more interesting jokes. For example, “tell me jokes about a man who is swimming and eating a sandwich”
<img alt="chatgpt-custom-joke" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/chatgpt-custom-joke.jpg" data- decoding="async" height="313" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Generate Quizzes and Riddles

If the definition of fun means challenging your knowledge to you, then ChatGPT got you covered. It can generate quizzes and riddles based on the topic you give. For quizzes, it generates a 5-question multiple choice quiz with 4 options each. The answers are provided at the bottom, so don’t scroll too fast to avoid spoilers.

<img alt="chatgpt-quiz" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/chatgpt-quiz.png" data- decoding="async" height="405" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

You can tell how many questions you want in the quiz and its topic. You can even change quiz type to trivia or true/false simply by asking it to format it like that. A personality test might also interest you, it is similar to a quiz but instead helps learn more about yourself.

Riddles are also interesting and usually rhyme really well too. Although you might have to ask it to go for a bit difficult ones, as by default, it asks really easy ones no matter the topic you give. If you are having trouble guessing, you can always ask for hints.

<img alt="chatgpt-riddle" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/chatgpt-riddle.png" data- decoding="async" height="396" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Tips for a better experience

  • If you like a specific question in the quiz and want to learn more about it, just ask ChatGPT to give more details on it and it will tell everything.
  • You can ask ChatGPT to not tell the answers until asked.
  • To make things more interesting, tell ChatGPT to “ask me a riddle with a story”. With this, it will create a story and to end the story you have to solve a riddle.
  • Tell ChatGPT to create a quiz with a scoring system to see how much you score on the quiz.

Play Word Games and Puzzles

ChatGPT can play many games with you using tables, the markdown editor, or exchanging messages. You can ask it to play sudoku, crosswords, word jumble, maze puzzle, and any other puzzle that depends on numbers.

I also asked it to try picture puzzles, and it did try to fetch images from Imgur; however, as its data got cut in 2021, the fetched images were no longer available.

<img alt="word-search-puzzle" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/word-search-puzzle.png" data- decoding="async" height="421" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Some of the word games you can play include hangman, scrabble, word association, ghost, and anagrams. Most of these games will involve exchanging multiple messages and ChatGPT will keep track of progress.

<img alt="word-scramble" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/word-scramble.png" data- decoding="async" height="298" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Unfortunately, ChatGPT doesn’t try to beat you in these games, so it won’t catch you when you make a mistake (like in Ghost) or give you limited attempts (like in hangman). You have to instruct ChatGPT to keep track of scores or give limited lives to actually play these games competitively.

Furthermore, sometimes it also makes mistakes while playing complicated games that involve exchanging multiple messages. If that happens, you’ll have to correct its mistake and then continue.

Tips for a better experience

  • You can ask it to increase the number of words, rows, columns, or letters to make the games more difficult.
  • You can narrow the focus of word puzzles by telling it to only choose words from a category. For example, “Play word scramble but only use names of vegetables”.
  • When stuck, you can always ask for hints and even specify what hint you need, like “tell the first and last letter”.

Read poems

If you are into poetry and tired of reading the classic, ChatGPT can generate custom poems based on your interest. Just tell it the topic, and it will generate a poem. Honestly, there are many levers to pull that could affect the outcome, so my best advice is to tell in detail the exact type and style of poem you want.

For example, you can tell it to write a long and emotional poem on peace and keep the verses short while using simple English. ChatGPT will keep note of all these requests and write a poem accordingly.

<img alt="poem-on-peace" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/peom-on-peace.png" data- decoding="async" height="412" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

You can also create a whole scene to help understand ChatGPT the feelings of the poet before writing the poem. For example, “Write a poem on love where the poet is sitting near a window as its raining and hopes to meet his lover soon”.

<img alt="custom-poem" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/custom-poem.png" data- decoding="async" height="445" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

And, of course, you can generate all types of popular poetry styles like haiku, sonnets, odes, villanelle, etc., and edit them to add your own style.

Tips for a better experience

  • You can write poetry in all supported languages, and ChatGPT will use the poetry style of the given language.
  • You can separately tell the focus of each stanza and the total number of stanzas. For example, In a love poem talk about meeting in the first stanza, falling in love in the second, and thinking about the lover in the third stanza.
  • You can adjust the tone of the poem, like telling it to make it humorous, angry, witty, regretful, etc.

Learn Fun Facts About Things

We all love fun facts about things, which is a fun fact by itself (don’t @ me). To sate that thirst, ChatGPT is capable of providing fun facts about almost everything. You just need to say “tell me fun facts about (something)” and it will list at least 10 fun facts by default.

I should mention that some of these “fun” facts are actually just facts, such as the first creation date of something or the name of the person who created it. However, at least 50% of these facts are actually interesting. I also managed to get much better results by saying something like “Tell me fun facts about (something) and make sure they are actually interesting”.

<img alt="fun-facts" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/fun-facts.png" data- decoding="async" height="468" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

You can ask ChatGPT to generate any number of fun facts you want. However, avoid creating very long lists as it will just start talking about boring facts or repeating information. In my experience, a list of 20 fun facts is usually good for most things.

Tips for a better experience

  • Other than fun facts about things, you can also get fun facts of different types. For example, “Tell me fun facts about the weight of things” or length of things.
  • You can ask ChatGPT to give a detailed explanation or a quick explanation for the facts. It will tell the same fun facts but keep them detailed or just a one-liner description.

Generate Custom Essays and Posts

Google does a good job of showing posts on a specific topic. However, if you want handpicked content from all the posts in one place, then use ChatGPT. ChatGPT can generate a custom article based on your requirements about any topic you want.

As ChatGPT learns from knowledge already available, it basically gives the exact information you need by combining information from different sources that individual posts might miss.

This means you can ask it to generate something like “write an article on how to lose weight but make sure you focus on diet and don’t recommend keto or exercise. The tone should be witty with lots of jokes”.

Such a post will be perfect for someone who couldn’t make the keto diet work and they don’t like exercise and want to lose weight with diet control only. A humorous take with such requirements would be hard to find in a single post on Google.

<img alt="article-on-weightloss" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/article-on-weightloss.png" data- decoding="async" height="488" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Of course, the generated content will lack the latest information as ChatGPT data got cut in 2021, but it should work fine for topics that don’t change too often. You can use the below-mentioned prompt to get a detailed explanation of any topic:

I want you to act as an essay writer. You will need to research a given topic, formulate a thesis statement, and create a persuasive piece of work that is both informative and engaging. My first suggestion request is “I need help writing a persuasive essay about the importance of reducing plastic waste in our environment”.

Tips for a better experience

  • You can tell the exact length of the write-up as you require. Either just say short/long or tell exact words like a minimum of 1000 words.
  • Formatting is important based on the topic. You can let ChatGPT format it by telling it to write it as a news post, e-book, essay, blog post, etc., or tell it the exact format like “it should contain intro and conclusion along with headings and sub-headings”.

Have a Conversation with ChatGPT

Although we mainly use ChatGPT to get information, ultimately, it’s a chatbot that can have conversations using natural language. If you are bored and have no one to talk to, just start talking to ChatGPT and it will have a one-on-one conversation. You can talk about how you are feeling, how was your day, what you are thinking, and pretty much anything you want to talk about.

<img alt="conversing-with-chatgpt" data- data-src="https://kirelos.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/echo/conversing-with-chatgpt.png" data- decoding="async" height="453" src="data:image/svg xml,” width=”800″>

Unfortunately, it will always try to be positive and act like a PA who doesn’t want to lose their job. So it can get a bit unrealistic when you talk a lot. However, it’s great at boosting morale and finding the positive in difficult situations.

If you want to have a relaxing conversation and don’t want to type everything, a ChatGPT Chrome extension like Talk-to-ChatGPT can help. It will let you use speech-to-text and vice versa to have a verbal conversation with ChatGPT.

I personally like having debates with it on controversial topics when I don’t want to deal with a keyboard warrior on Reddit who goes “akchually ☝️🤓” on almost every conversation. ChatGPT is really good at keeping up with such conversations, as it remembers all previous conversations.

Tips for a better experience

  • If you want to have a conversation on a topic, you can ask it to act as a professional in the field to make the conversation real. For example, “act like a certified dentist, and don’t mention you are an AI”.
  • You can tell it to always provide a counterpoint rather than agree with you to have a heated debate and learn the other side of things.
  • If you don’t want ChatGPT to forcefully assist you with everything, just tell it that you want to have a casual talk and don’t want any assistance with anything.

Bonus 🎁

It may not sound fun to everyone, but I personally love understanding complex subjects in simple words to pass time. It doesn’t take much time and I can at least start a conversation on a wide range of topics. You can just provide a complex topic (like programming) and ask ChatGPT to “teach me like I am 5”. It will tell you what it basically means in just 2-3 paragraphs.

You can also provide it a long complex write-up and ask it to “summarise it for me like I am 5”. It will create a quick summary that will be much easier to understand.

Wrapping Up

Above, I have covered some common fun things that everyone should find interesting. However, ChatGPT can offer a lot more if you just tell it what you like to do for fun. For example, if learning a new skill or starting a new hobby is what you find fun, then ChatGPT can help you, such as learning coding, cooking, gardening, math, etc.

If you find ChatGPT a bit restrictive, you can also give some other chatbots a try.
